C.E.D.A.R – An Introduction

Crawford, Elvanfoot & Daer Action Resource – SC053437

CEDAR SCIO exists to strengthen and sustain our rural community — protecting what matters, creating new opportunities, and ensuring that local people shape the future of Crawford, Elvanfoot and Daer.

We are a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation run by volunteer trustees and supported by members from across the community. Our purpose is simple: to improve local wellbeing, protect community assets, and create practical solutions that make rural life better.

CEDAR focuses on four key areas:

  • Community Hall Management – Maintaining and improving our shared space so it remains viable, welcoming and fit for the future.
  • Community Transport – Developing solutions to reduce rural isolation and improve access to services.
  • Community Events & Wellbeing – Supporting social connection through events, activities and groups.
  • Community Asset Development – Exploring opportunities to bring assets into community ownership where it benefits local people.

Since forming, CEDAR has moved from concept to delivery. Key achievements include:

  • Securing significant external funding to support community transport development.
  • Strengthening governance with clear trustee structures, decision logs and transparent processes.
  • Supporting regular activities including social groups and wellbeing initiatives within the hall.
  • Progressing Community Asset Transfer discussions to safeguard long-term community control.
  • Modernising communications through website improvements and community updates.

We are building solid foundations — financially, legally and operationally — to ensure CEDAR is sustainable for the long term.
