🌿 CEDAR Community Newsletter – August 2025
🏡 Welcome
Welcome to the first ever CEDAR Community Newsletter! Our aim is to keep everyone informed, supported, and involved in all that’s happening across Crawford, Elvanfoot, and Daer.
🌱 What is CEDAR?
CEDAR ( Crawford, Elvanfoot and Daer Action Resource) is a charity group (CH 006947) set up to ensure that we are all represented and can influence and be engaged in community planning processes and projects. The group began in February 2024 and has made significant progress to date. CEDAR is structured according to Scottish Charity Regulations. Everyone who lives, or has significant interest in the area is a member of the group. There are14 trustees to drive things forward.
These trustees are volunteers who have formally applied and been elected by CEDAR and they meet regularly in the Village Hall in Crawford. There is a limit to the number of trustees but the position is open to all members. For a community our size our maximum is 14 volunteers.
Within the trustee group there are 4 Office Bearers, namely Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Again volunteers who are elected.

✅ Our Remit
- to link with South Lanarkshire Council and other community groups eg Vaslan (Voluntary Sector), Clyde Windfarm etc.
- to ensure all members of the CEDAR community are kept informed, supported and involved. .
- To act as a consultative group for new service delivery proposals
- To apply for funding and ensure that funding is appropriately used for the betterment of all members.
- To improve facilities and services in the community with a view to improving everyone’s physical and mental health.
🎉 Recent Achievements
Things are well underway now. Just over a year ago the Community Council sent everyone a survey to explore what you wanted in our community and the results gave us a basis to move forward on a number of projects.
We have successfully applied to various sources for funding and have accrued monies from grants and micro grants to deliver projects.
- Management of the village hall through a Community Asset Transfer. This gives us a lease for two years which prevents its planned closure and allows the many successful events and meetings to continue. (A calendar and list is attached). The hall is the backbone of much that happens in our community!
- We also have the funds to maintain and improve the hall during the lease eg Storage etc for equipment
- A number of health inputs have been facilitated including a toddler group, Easy Movers and workshops for Mental Health support. (A fuller list is provided at the end of this newsletter)
🎭 Community Events
The events group CEPE (Crawford and Elvanfoot Promotions and Events) and CEDAR, have been organising social, health and wellbeing focused events throughout the year. 🙌 Finally
Because this is the first newsletter, it is a little long (sorry) but we wanted to ensure that everyone was fully updated on what has been, is and will be happening.
The intention is that the newsletter runs alongside the already established Web Page in order to reach as many as possible. We would really like to hear whether you would like the newsletter to run once a month or whether you feel there is no need for it. Please send your views and any suggestions to Joyce Gilmartin either by email or delivery at 69 Carlisle Road.

Until recently there was also a Development Officer employed, again funded by grants. This was filled by Lyndsey Delaney. Lyndsey was a great help to CEDAR, liaising with the council and other communities and services. She will be sadly missed but we wish her all the best in her new ventures. The plan is to renew the post as soon as is possible.
There has also been a change in the chair of CEDAR, Helen Hally has served as chair since the group was started but has had to step back due to personal reasons. Helen was crucial to the initiation of the group and was a very active chair. She will still serve as a trustee but Daniel Jones will now take on the role. Congratulations Daniel!
💡 Competition Time!
We’re a lively community! Can you think of a ‘lively’ name for our newsletter? All entries considered (but be kind!) and a prize awaits the suggestion which wins.
